TL494 duty cycle

I have here a TL494 running at approximately 150kHz, and a dutycycle network set up as follows

-> 10K resistor <-> negative rail
|
|
-> 47K potmeter <-> 10K resistor <-> pin 14 5V ref
|
|
-> pin 1 IN1+

-> pin 2 IN1-
|
|
-> pin 3 FEEDBACK

When adjusting the dutycycle I get some scary waveforms jumping around on my scope, so I am not entirely sure if its the triggering of the scope that is jittering or if there is a problem with the TL494 suddenly switching the pushpull outputs into same phase.

It's just caused by the triggering of the traces. Try adjusting the trigger level knob and also try changing the coupling to see what gives you the best results. Maybe each channel has its own triggering system? That would seem like it would make it switch between out of phase and in phase. What brand and model of oscilloscope do you have? Sometimes I have trouble locking into a certain signal but that only really happens when I am working with things in the range of >~10MHz.

Its an old 15MHz dual trace scope, Application BS-310.

I have been using auto triggering level as it was the only setting that could give me a stable picture, and only internal triggering would keep the picture stable too. Just had the cover off and found a wire had loosened from the triggering switch, so it can now trigger on channel A and the picture is stable without any of the jitter seen in the movie.

I just never thought, only suspected, the problem was in the scope :) its easier to blame the birdnest of a breadboard setup
