Microwave oven transformer magnetizing current?

So a week ago I built a power supply using a MOT re-wound for low voltage, the magnetizing current with no load is about 4A input, rising to 5A under full load. Unfortunately the voltage drops too low under full load (30A). I left the shunt in the MOT at the time when I re-wound it. The core is probably 500W, maybe a little more.

What I'm wondering is what will happen if I remove the shunt.

Will the unloaded magnetizing current decrease, and maximum load current increase?
or
Will the unloaded magnetizing current increase, and maximum load current increase?

At the moment the PSU works fine, but I'd be worried if the magnetizing current significantly increases since the primary wire isn't rated for much more current...

Second of the two. I'm unsure of how much this increase is though (without magnetic modeling, etc.)

It does increase, because with the shunts in, some of the magnetic flux is "forced" through the shunts (because its already stupidly high), removing them makes things even worse.

What you can do is remove the shunts, and then wind some extra primary turns in their place.

Please get another transformer! MOTs are horrid things, they're not meant for continuous use.
