I have this subwoofer box and I think it would work great for my second SSTC it has a nice enclosure for the mosfets primary and secondary and on the other side it has lots of room for gate driver circuitry. What do you think?

Don't you think that it would look a bit too bodged? I suppose if you rounded off the circle's diameter and gave it a nice sand and paint job (if it's not the MDF board, as you can't exactly sand it).

I think that the speaker box has great potential and it was a good observation on your part to realize that. Just make sure that the box has no metal in/on it that could come near the secondary coil.

Certainly depends on the size of the SSTC you intend to build, my version of steve wards sstc5 was fitted into a lunchbox with exterior heatsinks.

So I think its way too big unless you start talking input power above 1-2kW.

I think something like this Link2 but using two or four IRFP460's Full or Half bridge I don't know yet maybe try some idea's like using a 6" OD PVC pipe and make an internal primary I have asked about it before here Link2 That my be some thing cool to try. I decided to whip up a quick heat sink set up and put a few old semiconductors on there for reference one step closer. I can use TL494's for a good adjustable gate driver right?

Subwoofer, Shouldn't have a problem at all fitting a SSTC circuit into that. I was going to build a Mini SSTC using Steves circuit, and I got a old speaker, like 6X4X3 maybe? I took the large speaker out for ATMEGA644P program messing, and I figured maybe the case can be a SSTC.. It has 4 terminals so :D

Good luck Chris Cramer!

I like this full bridge setup. Link2 Can I make a more simple oscillator and gate drive than this. Link2 And I want to thank Steve Ward for all of his info. smile

Use the driver from the mini sstc, it can drive a fullbridge without problems: Link2
