Good day guy

I've always been interested in CNCs and for a long time I was wanting a "fast" way for making PCBs (but not like the Tonner transfer method). Soo after reading the "LED PCB etcher' thread Link2 I've decided to try and buld a CNC bly-ray pcb etcher. So here few pics in the beggining of the project.

Cheers

So, it's going to expose the photoresist using a blue/uv laser, then you're going to etch the copper in a usual etching solution? - Sounds cool to me :)

Nice done Huben. ( as always)
but if i understand correctly, you going make PCB by photoresist technology .I don't like the idea, that you are going use beam, which has high energy, and can exposed material, which don't have to be lighted by UV confused

Hi Linas

I hope that the beam won't expose unwanted area. But we will see when the diode come.
For now - here some new progress on the plotter:
I've chnaged the X-drive (moved the motor to the middle because I was experiencing some torsion when it changes direction fast. Also tested the Y-movement - works perfectly. Placed the limiting switches. All in all - the machanical part is finished. Starting on the electronics. Here some pics. Cheers smile

i think you have to use same system, as in DVD-ROM, lens with focus..
but is not simple to make ill
I think just then you can make 0,1mm track's on PCB... mistrust

Hi Linas

the diode is inserted in a housing and it has a focusing sistem already on it. Here is the link to the E-bay sell Link2

Looks good. I think you would be better off with a router type tool, and a rotary motor. That way, plain PCB'c can be made, without using the photoresist boards. You would have to add a Z axis though.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the motors?

Hi rp181 - I've already have one of those (with the moving z axis) tongue But it is full-step, slow and noisy. Just like to try new things. Pics attached. About the motors -the big one (also the belts and the two pulleys) are from old toshiba copying machine that I took apart year or soo ago. The other motor - found it in the scrapyard. Don't remember from what I took it though.

Can't wait to get that laser and start the experiments smile

The progress on the CNC - I've put together the drive boards and tested them .... hmm didn'work ... I will have to turn on the scope and see what is going on.

I will be leaving town for three days soo the progress will stop. After that I will have one more day to work on it before I leave for school.

Cheers
