RF electromagnetic field generator? The same reason why fluorescent bulbs glow near a Tesla coil?

The top picture shows something which has been improvised out of a watch case and strap. I expect the cable leads to an RF generator of some kind, perhaps a TC, or even to Paint Shop Pro! smile

The second device seems to be fabricated out of PP3 battery clips.

A hoax of some kind, I'd guess, but who can say?

Could be using a simple HV generator (that large block in the top centre looks like a potted inductor). It *is* possible to generate tens of KV in a small space using a piezo transformer but IIRC they need 12V minimum.

I did find out that there is a hybrid system where they run two PZTs in series with inverse phasing, to get +/- 2KV and if you run them open loop (using a PIC based pulse excitation circuit) you can get over 6KV peak.

"Bother" said Pooh, as the laser diode fell off its mount...

The second picture is very easy to say that its a simple electromagnet. you can see the coiled wire in the far clear section, and obviously uses 3 - 9volt batteries to power it...

you can get 12V in a pretty small package, but they don't last very long IIRC

my guess is that instead of making an RF source of tens of KV, make one fot driving the driver built unto the compact flourescent, as the bulb is the kind with the driver built in... but the watch nay just as well be tens of kV... Emco makes VERY small, self contained units (since they were light and small enough, I have plans to build a lifter based on one, so that way the entire lifter would be self contained).

I wonder what the Oriental writing says it is.
