Hi all,
What kinda of spike protection mechanism should I need to beef up an ordinary 12V to 110v/220v inverter ? My current setup consist of Inverter -> light dimmer -> 3uf microwave cap -> ignition coil -> hv bridge rectifier -> capacitor bank -> spark gap -> primary coil
Just killed my second 500w inverter by playing some sparks at the ignition coil electrodes...SSHhhh..

The ignition coil+dimmer setup will always draw current spikes of several Amps, dont know any "protection" that could get rid of them...

Hi Dr.Kilovolt,
What would you recommend for replacing ignition coil + dimmer setup? I was thinking of taking just the inverter step-up transformer 12v->110/220v and drive it with a 555 PWM.
