ok, so here is what I have Working:
DSL modem, hooked to a linksys WiFi router broadcasting throughout the house...

I need to be able to hook an 8 port Network switch into my WiFi connection, it will connect my Printer, likely an Xbox original (modified, of course), two or three computers, and possibly various other ethernet devices in the not too distant future, such as homemade ethernet controlled devices...
I tried to use the ethernet port on my range Expander, but no Internet...
then I try to go to the range expander's configuration page, and it is not accessible (it is seen in my WiFi connections view on my laptop, but I cannot get the configuration program or the online manager to open)

so then I try a video game ethernet bridge, but it is apparently broken...
then I tried to temporarily run it's internet connection through that of my laptop's so that I could get the drivers automatically for a WiFi adapter, but then the internet on both computers refuses to work!

I can't afford to run a cable (it is at the other end of out house, which is a rather "U" shape

any ideas on how I could get this to work? at least for one of the computers?

I tried to manually install the drivers for the USB WiFi adapter, but the Linksys drivers say that they are already installed, then when I plug in the unit it does not work, and Microsoft does not seem to offer a driver download for their WiFi adapters (BTW, driver issues might be related to the fact that I am Beta testing Windows 7 on this computer)

Have you managed to get the range expander to do anything? If you haven't got Internet out of it, you need to focus on that part of the network. look through the manual and figure out what its ip address is and try to configure it manually by connecting a cable from you laptop Ethernet port to the range expanders port.

After you can get Internet access through the range expander from your laptop connected over Ethernet to the range expander, then try plugging in the switch (there is no reason that shouldn't work)

so far the only thing the range expander has done is re-broadcast the wifi signal (but it is listed as unsecured, and it fails to properly connect when attempted)

I got the stuff on the switch connected temporarily through my laptop (turns out I had to set the default gateway manually) but I still cannot even get internet from my laptop if directly connected to range expander, or even it's configuration page...

I can't leave my laptop plugged into these computers to give them internet... but now that I have a basic connection on them I might be able to get the drivers re-configured for the WiFi adapters since Windows can do it with it's own database, rather than force the drivers from the manufacturer (which refuse to install themselves properly) to function... I will update this post if I get one of these adapters working, from which I can assume I can just share the connection with the other items on the switch?

If you are using the range expander I think you are (the WRE54G) the normal automatic configuration won't work, and you are better off following one of the tutorials about the net to get it to works its magic. Link2 seems pretty complete, just scroll down to the page about with wireless security enabled. Also make sure that when you are doing configuring the range expander before you get that magic blue light you set yourself up with a static IP (192.168.1.254 usually is a safe one) and use the address 192.168.1.240 to see the wireless range expander (it isn't at 192.168.1.1)

good luck!

I tried to configure it through that IP address, but still no luck
the program supplied can't find it, even when the light was red or blue, and I cannot access the browser based config page... that is the main issue I had in the first place...
