I guess they sell stuff for repairing, and I was looking for a flyback transformer.

Do you guys think I should buy off of them? I searched this forum and no one has talked about them yet..

The easiest and cheapest place to get flyback transformers is from TVs left out on the side of the road. I think most, if not all, people on this forum get flybacks from TVs or from other people who got them cheaply.

You would only need those flybacks if you needed matching ones or were repairing a TV set that needed that one flyback.

Why do you say that? There are other components in a TV aside from the flyback that work to produce a picture . .

The CRT can go bad, the transistor or the other driving utilities for the flyback can go bad, the deflection coils can have a short, in which case you get a bright dot in the middle of the screen, etc. T.V.s are pretty complicated little things and, in fact, I'd be willing to bet that flybacks are one of the least complicated things in a T.V., even if their design is complex and difficult, the principles behind their functioning is extremely simple.

It would be so much cheaper to find flybacks. I have i think one flyback left. Depending one where you live, i could just straight up give it to you. If you live too far away, you would have to pay for the shipping though. You can also make your own high frequency high voltage ferrite transformers (not technically flybacks). If you are not into doing this type of thing, i could make you one. They have AC output, they have lower voltage, and have higher current. Mine can pump out about 6kv and 116ma continuous without getting hot (700 watts). Get some high frequency high voltage diodes (uf4007 are perfect) and string them together to get DC for a tesla coil or capacitor charger.

Homemade flybacks would work much better for tesla coils. They can be (and usually are) lower voltage and higher current, which is good. They will not die as easy as professional if made right, and the diodes are easy to replace. they are perfect for the zvs driver :). I could make you one for cheap, with good insulation and thick wire to handle alot of current.

With my homemade flyback, i got about 8 inch sparks on a tesla coil setup, with no tuning, too small capacitor, and slow diodes (wayyy too slow, slower than 1n4007's iirc).

Yeah I cant fully say yet. I might be getting some flybacks, but maybe sometime I could contact you and talk about it. I live in Michigan, So I don't know what you would pay me for the time to make one for me and send it out....

Yet, Keep in mind as for now, I'm using only 12V 2A, hopefully 7A soon, on 555s...

To expand on this, these high frequency high voltage transformers have no gap, which means you cannot operate them like an ordinary flyback (sorry if this is already known). They are usually operated in push-pull, half bridge, or full bridge mode. If you can't find a core that can store energy (gapped ferrite, iron powder, etc.), then you can configure the windings like a forward transformer, with a reset winding. I personally would prefer winding custom flybacks on iron powder cores from Amidon (use the 26 material if you are just starting to make your own magnetics).

If you want to use ungapped ferrite for your transformer, Amidon also sells large cores capable of wide ranges of power (<20 all the way up to ~1700W, dependent on core size and operating frequency).
