Let's start a on-going thread of capacitor sources. When you see a good deal, add it to this thread!
This is a common topic that pops up, over and over again. And for good reason, too: Capacitors that are good for electromagnetic launchers are simply not found laying around the house or in local retail outlets like Radio Shack.
From time to time there are special bargains on capacitors through eBay and many other sources.
For starters, I'd like to highlight a really good deal in the UK. The guys who built the 7KJ coilgun for Discovery Channel are now putting up the parts for sale on eBay. They're offering the two fully built capacitor banks on eBay auction number 330303360170.
Try this link (but eBay links often fail) or just search on item number 330303360170.
This guy recently started selling very cheap caps on the uk ebay, i got 10kj for only 25 pounds (5x 22000uf 400v), oh and remember that 18 off means 18 capacitors, that suprised me when 5 caps arrived instead of the 1 i was expecting

Good tips guys, thanks.
I recently bought 6KJ of capacitors on eBay from seller 'bcd-parts' at an extremely good price. The seller said he had a couple huge bins of these caps remaining to sell. I bought two lots of 12 caps, each one is 2400 uF 450 vdc made by Philips. That's 243 joules in each can, the total price including shipping was $121 usd.
This is 2.1 cents per joule! Great stuff.
Your price may vary on eBay. All parts have been checked and they meet specifications, but they are obviously used and some have been dented. They had prompt shipment and excellent packaging.

microwaves have become a wonderous salvage source of capacitors and magnets and transformers if you ever stumble upon one.
It sure can, but the microwaves capacitors can't hold a charge big enough or long enough, big awesome electrolyte capacitors can. But you have a good point, once upon a time when I was dumpsterdiving I found a huge inverter with 2x 1000µF capacitors in it.
hello i've been roaming the net for ages now for caps and was just wondering what the difference is between these two? theres quite a big price difference. so i dunno really. this is for the mmc so would need 12
