Oops, those arnt the ones i have. Apparently they took them out of the sample program. Either way, those will work. 400A for 10ms is pleanty.

o ok, what ever, they are like 60A @ 1000v. i samples 3, if i put them in parralel would that be enough to handle 1.3kj? @ 500v? also one more thing, how to i calculate the discharge time of the capacitors? i have the resistance of the capacitor bank itself, but i dont have the resistance of the rest of the circuit, could you help me out and give me a formula?

Ive looked alot into theory of railguns, but all the people that have built one have disappeared...
I wonder if there's a connection between building a railguns and disappearing ... hmm. mistrust

Government conspiracy or inevitable HV incidents? ... you decide! lol

The answer about dissapearing lies in lack of manpower, funding, and facilities.... Otherwise people dissapear because they weren't able to get presentable results.

That's right, though I'd like to work on it more. I think it's currently somewhere in storage at my old school. I just need better SCR's to handle 250kA+ at 400V for about 1 millisecond. I'm thinking about using a bunch of stud SCR's, but I don't know where to get that many for cheap. Gate driving would also be less straight forward with so many in parallel.

How old are you? You should seek some company sponsorship. I am getting a informal donation of 6 SCR's capable of 3.6kV and 10900A surge for 10ms.
Kind of unrelated, but how did you get access to a high speed camera, rogowski coil, and all that good stuff?

How well would a ram injection work? because we want to make this thing semi portable, as in, the rails and sear for the ram ( to inject the projectile into the rail) are on one unit that can be held like a rifle, and then have a 3 gauge wire going to a backpack with all of the capacitors and charging circuits in there. good idea?(ram injection)
thx

Thats kind of impractical, it will be hard to get your rails to last a reasonable amount of shots.
