Good day guys

I have been thinking of building such a device for quite a long time and now I found some spare time to do it. It is based on the design from this site Link2

Well I done some modifications to it, but in general it is what you see on the shematics.
About how well works - weeeel we have tunderstorms here like once a month or two soo I will have to wait and see. For now it is sensible enough to pic the EMI from a lighter (those with the piezeelectric igniter) 10sm (4inch) away from the antenna.

What do you think smile

Cheers

nice! I was wondering if it can be modified for Rail gun Speed Detection(maybe by installing near Rails & . . .)?

Good day Ama

well I don't think that it will work well because the amount of energy it will detect will be BIG and I think it will send the circuit crazy. Please correct me if I am wrong here.

Cheers

you would need a second timed position to calculate a speed, so no, would need some other type of sensor.

There is alot more lightning strikes that you would think there is, just take a look at the Danish Meteorological Institute lightning map here: Link2

Right now there isnt really alot of data there, but usually when I look at it, I am surprised by the amounth of strikes near where I live without there have been a storm.

How well does it coop being near a tesla coil? :)

Good day guys

well I have a few friends very keen on meteorology - and sadly - there won't be anything interesting in the next 2-3 weeks frown

"How well does it coop being near a tesla coil? :)' - ohh it lights up like a Christmas tree cheesey

Cheers smile

An AM radio by itself is a good lightning detector.
Just find an empty frequency and listen for the strikes. You can even couple to a detector if you'd like.

yes indeed smile Most of the people building those detectors tune the LC on the antena at araound 300khz (the VLF). So tunne your AM receiver to the lowest frequency possible - and you have a pretty good lightning detector. But hey - it was a fun project smile

Cheers
