Well I have now got 14 250v 3000uf capacitors (about 93j each) to make a multistage coilgun BUT I only have one source of cheap SCR's and they are rated at only 200v and 250Amp (5KAmp peak) and cost $10 each if I buy more than ten. So does anyone know where there are some good cheap SCR's that would suit my coilgun (I think I worked out peak possible current would be just under 2.5KAmp) I would prefer bolt type ones. I have looked on ebay but I cant find any that wouldnt cost me more than $10 each (Also shipping to New Zealand from America is rediculous).

10$ for those is a great deal. Its 5kA for 10 ms(usually), So with coilguns, they will take much more current. The rating goes up exponentially as time goes dowm.

I know its a good deal but theyre only rated at 200v and the caps im using are 250v, do you think I should just use the coilgun at 200v? I want it to be as powerfull as possible so I was hoping I could get some better scr's

Yea this is what I was originally going to do but they dont really share current all that well and It was going to cost over $15 per SCR bank so I dont know if it would be worth it just to get the extra 50v. Thanks anyway but unless I find a good surplus suplier somewhere in america I guess ill just have to go with the ones ive been offered.

Yeah depends your caps as Te most I used mine for was $6 (Same price as my Mosfet!), 400V 470uf capacitors. I got mine for $6 on digikey, and its rated 800V 80amps. Never had any problems with it, and it stays ice cold :)
