I think it might be easier to use a microchip (assuming you know enough about programming). You can get ones up to about 50mhz so that operates in nano seconds (I think).

Hahahahaha I've programed ATTINY2313 and ATMEGA644 (64kb space) The most I made so far was a home made yahtzee game on a 20X4 character LCD. No sound yet. Luckily it supported 7 custom characters for the LCD. I've done multiple tests with bascom to simulate the LCD...
Its been months since I've monkey with my USB programmer.. I've been too much around Coilguns, Green lasers, and so on. I should get back to my chips :( I was thinking if i got a coilgun to work very good, I'll use my ATTINY2313 to drive parts of it, such as an automatic fire at X volts.. Yet.. with that LM311 from uzzors circuit, I could have it indicate 400V and trigger the SCR...... hmm :P
Also, heres a rough photoshop of my coilgun circuit.. very simple xD

Capacitor bank anode, cathode, and gate anode and cathode. SCR's usually have 2 wires coming out of the "bank" cathode, because the gate cathode is the same.

Ya, thats why they are both blue. I put it the 2nd blue on because the back is the same and I was too lazy to go around to the blue on the other side. It's 3 pin, trust me.
