I was wondering if there are any other programmers out there that possibly "i could build" and are not to complex that supports microchip's mp lab software.

This programmer works with free ICProg software, and is quite simple: Conquest programmer
You just point ICProg to the binary produced by MPLab. It doesn't support MPLab's ICD (in circuit debug), no simple programmers do. If you want debug, you can get ICD compatible programmers on eBay for about $40.
