Hi all, i need to do this for a school project and think this is the place where I can find some help, so here it goes. Look at the attached file, thats how my project is today, I`m pretty sure I have to attache a diode or something somewhere in the way to the coil, but i dont know where. I couldnt find this anywhere, so could you please help me? All the sugestions will be great to have. Thank you

You need to read this: Link2 and this: Link2

Everything you will ever need to know about coil guns is on the forum, in the archives or in the wiki. We don't answer these basic questions anymore because they have already been answered many times. To make sure you don't kill yourself or start a fire I have fixed your diagram. You should also have a safety resistor to slowly discharge the capacitor because it is dangerous if someone touches it while charged or partly charged.

You also need to be absolutely sure the mains is disconnected before you fire it.
And to protect your capacitors, I added another diode across the coil:

It needs to be a relatively beefy diode.

Not likely. You are going to want a fairly large diode since you are likely to have a good amount of current running through it. Try a rectifier diode (google it) which is designed large currents at high voltage.

Putting all four diodes should work, with a bit of a safety margin.

You might want to invest in a 5-10 ohm resistor to put in series with those diodes just to be safe...
