Some jargon clarification : Does crest voltage mean peak voltage ? Would this be the same as peak to peak voltage in case the voltage never goes negative ?

Hi MadsKaizer,
Thanks for replying. I saw the definition of crest factor, was not too sure about the crest voltage ( peak voltage ) part. I think I would have to assume that its the peak voltage on one side of 0.

As far as I'm aware, crest voltage means the same as peak voltage. It's very rarely used, most people just say peak voltage.
As for the peak-to-peak thing, peak voltage is defined starting from 0. That means that a waveform could have different peak voltages (and hence different crest factors) on its positive and negative sides. Usually you quote the larger of the two values.
Peak-to-peak isn't really meaningful, and I prefer to avoid it altogether.

Peak or peak to peak are useful in different contexts. It's easiest to measure the amplitude of a waveform on a scope if you line up the bottom peak with a graticule line and read off where the top peak comes, less error than estimating the two peaks seperately and adding or averaging. The extreme of +ve and -ve peaks being different is the waveform from a flyback.
