I'm making a small mono amplifier for my MP3 player. Is it fine just to short the L and R channels together to get mono signal? Or do I need to worry about the amplifier of the player?
Edit: would it be good to put a 10k resistor in line with both channels and then combine them?

Yes, the 10k resistors thing is how I've always done it. Or 1k or 100 ohms, just something to stop the two amplifiers fighting each other.
