I came accross this oscilloscope and was amazed by the price/capabilities ratio. I'm figuring to sell my old 10MHz dual trace analog scope and buy one of these. I searched on google to read some opinions about it receiving quite positive criticism about that. I would like to know what do you think about that.

There are a few threads about this stuff about and a few more.
Basically, I have had good luck with their scopes, but if you expect to get a $5000 scope for $500 then aren't going to be happy. But if you just want a dso you will be way happier than with your old analog scope. The owon stuff works fine, there is a ton of noise on the 5mv/div setting (where as a real scope would probably have a 1mv/div setting that would be perfectly clean), the usb download is a little flaky (like honestly, I tried 3 times, the first I got a bitmap of the screen, the second I got a 4k sample csv file, the third I got a 256sample .csv file...), the screen has a narrow viewing angle, the probes seem a little cheep, all that. But it works great, and was totally worth the $300 I paid for mine.

If you absolutely need a DSO for something, then it's probably not a bad idea, but I wouldn't get rid of the analog scope.
I have a 200MHz/1GSPS DSO, but I prefer my flaky 40MHz analog scope over it for most stuff. Sure, it has been indispensable on some occasions, but for general work, analog scopes are just so much more practical to use.

I got the Owon portable unit for occasional on-site use - works OK & screen update is reasonably quick, but the user interface is a total mess - not thought out at at all - pretty typical for low-end Far East stuff, where the software development stops at the point where it just about works.

From what I've seen and heard, you'd be better off with an Instek...it's a much better instrument for about the same price (and depending on where you buy it, it's sometimes actually cheaper than the "comparable" Owon scope).

I would absolutely go for a GW Instek scope instead, They have that scope on school and it is much better then the Owon. But the Owon isn't too bad either.
