With an inverter or line voltage doubled with a light bulb in series to limit the current. With both setups you would probably want to have a volt meter on the cap so that you can see how much voltage there is and when to disconnect it so that you don't over charge anything.

Look at the next thread down called "Boost Converter 4.5VDC-330VDC"

400V is the max voltage you can apply to the cap (it can be overrated but I don't suggest it) so 300V or 330V is fine. Make sure you have a diode that is in reverse parallel with the cap so that you don't kill it due to reverse voltage from the coil. With 400V compared to 330V with the same cap, you get more energy out of a single cap.

Charging the cap to 330V will give it 370J of energy, while charging it to 400V will give it 544J. You will lose some power at the lower voltage, seeing as the energy is equal to half the voltage squared times capacitance. I'd still say to go for 330V, however you do lose power. If 330V isnt enough kick you can always make a higher voltage charger to obtain more energy.

you mean is better to change the cap or just charge the cap with the same 330 booster converter?

Use the 330V boost converter to start with. You might need a higher voltage if the coilgun doesnt perform right.

One simple way to charge a coilgun is a transformer connected to the ac mains followed by a diode rectifier. It has the advantage of being an extremely fast charging method.
