I was looking into buying an oscilloscope for solid state tesla coil use, and probably other uses down the line. I have a pretty good understanding of the features, specs, etc. I was wondering if any of the brilliant minds here could point me in the right direction. I am asking for recommendations. Recommended specs, brands, types, etc. What I am hoping to this to come to, is a starting point. Things such as, a minimal bandwidth, sampling rate, et cetera. A big ol' thanks goes to any contributing members.

I was thinking 25 MHz or greater, and I was going for a used scope in good condition. I am leaning away from eBay, but if a good deal is on there, I might have to go for it. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It would be helpful to know a budget limit otherwise I'd say get a 1GHz 4ch digital recording oscope, you know something that would run a company somewhere around 100k dollars, but I imagine you don't have that kind of money. So I use a Owon its a chinese digital oscope Pretty sure its this one and I payed about the same price Link2

It a good oscope eve after I had some HV feedback trash one probe at the conector where you adjust the cap or whatever it is, and also Ch1 doesn't read below 500mV, will it read anything lower then that I dunno, I do know that if I adjust the voltage to 300mV the trace disapears off the screen.

Haha, no 100k dollars is just a little bit out of my budget. I was thinking anywhere from 200 to 500.

Probably not the greatest deal, but I got a catalog from my local shop. There's a decent looking o-scope for 565.

It has the following specs:
30 MHz
2-channel
Dual trace operation
1mV/DIV

It also comes with x1 and x10 probes. How good of a deal is that? Should I try to go with that one, or wait for a used one to come in?

565 for 30MHz dual trace? Sounds about full price. You can't actually go wrong buying a new scope, but it leaves you with a lot less money to buy other things to blow up. I recently advised a friend to hook up his speakers with 2.5mm2 twin'n'earth instead of 371 conductor OFC gold plated yada yada as he'd get better sound, like about 50 CDs better sound for the same total spend. Should you get unlucky and get a 2nd user scope that doesn't work or breaks early, fixing it will teach you a lot, and an old analog scope should be fairly straightforward to troubleshoot. Even new scopes sometimes fail shortly after the warranty expires.

I agree, used is better value. I got a 75MHz 4 channel analog scope for about $250 on Ebay.

Used 25MHz, dual trace scope from ebay for me was $125. I'm sure you can find a deal somewhere.

Thanks guys, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for a used scope on eBay and the likes!

EDIT: I'm bidding on a Tektronix scope on eBay.

Click me!

4 channel 300 MHz
100% working, no dents or scratches.

This seems like a fantastic scope! Thanks again for everyone's help.
