Ok since I have little to no expertise in audio circuitry I'm just going to throw this out there at the risk of being told to learn to use google (I've tried already).
I have a specific goal in mind, to make my voice sound like Master Chief from the Halo game series, it might be really far out there, or it might be somewhere in the realm of reality. I figured I'd start my search by learning about DSPs, but I'm still fairly 'out there'. If anyone has any input it would be really appreciated...

Specific goal in mind, I saw a relatively cheap master chief costume (pretty good quality) at a store, but if I were to do that, I'd want complete total overkill instead of being just 'another guy in a armor suit'

I'm totally lost on the subject too. I thought making a combine mask from HL2 and putting a voice modulator in it would rock. Just need a stun-stick and I can start exercising cop violence. I found out the signal would need to have it's pitch lowered, bass boosted, sent through a low pass filter of sorts and then finally sprinkle the result with some compression. It sounded hard to do on a PC, let alone with electronics.
I've never heard Master Chief's voice, google around to find out which effects you need to apply for starters, and then see how complex each filter is. For all we know a regular two-transistor guitar distortion circuit might do the trick.
