Hello! It seems that I haven't posted forever! But I'm back for a quickie
I'm working on a project that will be battery operated from 2 NiMH batteries - the predicted maximum current to be delivered by the batteries is <150mA. The device will be rechargable via a Wall Wart, and the device will have a DC power input jack that is connected to the wall wart transformer. The wall wart should be able to be charge the 2 NiMH batteries while the device is off, but the device shall run from the wall wart when it is plugged in and "On". Anyone know of a battery management controller IC that will do this? I've been searching through datasheets, but any help is appreciated if you know of one right off the bat!

Those little DC power jacks usually have some kind of built in switch allowing incoming external power to be used when connected, and run off the batteries when disconnected. Would that work?

MC33340* and MC33342* are NiCd/NiMH battery fast charge controllers, and MC33341* are battery charger control regulator circuits from ON Semiconductors.
Maxim offer their MAX712 and MAX713 NiCd/NiMH Battery Fast-Charge Controllers as suggested by Ken M. above.

I only knew about the maxim ones, since i sampled some chips some time ago and signed up for their engineering notes newsletter, I get one maybe...every month or other month with info on new products and such and they show xample circuits for some of the chips, I glance threw them since most of the semiconductors are smt ics and I'm not too big on surface mount stuff, plus how often am I gonna design a cellphone or laptop?
