The project is a 1 mile long, coilgun with multi stage, with a goal of over 25,000 mph launch. over 1000Gs under 1 second. their small test ones used. Ill update later when i get its name.. but it's on the show Project earth, when they use lenses to reflect the suns rays. -- I should say the 1 mile long coilgun, is going to be their project after this small test one..

The model in Arizona has enough to power 5 homes for a year, with electricity...looks like a mortar... oddly only 2000V full charge but no idea the joules.....but they did say 1,126 G forces..

Okay, if you look really closely you get a glimpse of me during a Prof Angel interview, I'm standing in the background in the army truck bed bent over and handing jerry cans to another extra. All of a one-second star appearance, lol.

The "Discovery Project Earth" coilgun had 7KJ maximum stored energy. The base of the unit contains four large banks of capacitors in series-parallel configuration. A lot of their engineering went into a very complicated charging system, using a long tray of relays under microprocessor control. First all the caps are charged to a low voltage, then to a high voltage.

They built a G-meter into the firing chamber, using two optosensors to detect position. However this proved to be unreliable as we got readings all over the map, including 9,999 G. Apparently the aluminum launching disk may tilt as it lifts off the flat coil. We had a late night in the dark desert under headlights working on it, as coyotes howled in the desert.

Cheers, Barry

Nice, It really shows that if we can eventually get the right designs and power down, Maybe we could make a vehicle with a coilgun mounted to it, to be able to be as powerful as tanks. You'd think in was it takes less time to fire a coilgun (when the charging tech. is improved) than it does to load and fire a tank. The projectile isn't explosive, except the end maybe for damage on ground vehicles... Which means u can have like a ammo feed to the coilgun. With a tank, using missiles, u risk the chance of well, possibly igniting the missile next in line.. You never know, would mean that the vehicles could be lighter and move around faster.
