I am trying to build this voice recording/play circuit using the Chip ISD1740 from Winbond. The two attached images show the pin functions and the circuit itself. While I was putting the chip on a test breadboard the pin VCCD broke and I soldered a wire onto it and then put the remaining pins in the breadborad. While populating the circuit I found that as soon as I join the digital ground to analog ground , the power supply shows a short. Can somebody suggest why this happens?Do you think the chip might have been damaged because of VCCD pin breaking and I soldering a wire to it? Is it worth a try to leave the analog ground floating and see if the circuit works.

( PS: According to circuit diagram the analog ground and digital ground are connected to each other)

I would look for other wiring errors, solder a new pin shouldn't hurt the chip.

Mainly, check all of the power supply filtering.

Also, never ever post a screencap of a pdf again...

Thanks ... for your response. Can you tell me why screen cap of a pdf is not a good idea. How else would I show you the circuit?

Cheers

Not to seem like a jerk, but it would be a lot more useful to just link the whole pdf and give us a page number so we might be able to read the rest of it...

One thing that would help debuggig, is where is the power supply connected to? It looks like the digital ground is only used for the pushbuttons so I do not really see any reason that connecting it to the agnd would cause any appreciable current draw...

I got the recorder/replay circuit working today. I found that the cause of large current draw when I connected the analog ground to digital ground was a a short circuit on the breadborad itself. Now I fixed it and it works. the quality of the replayed sound is not all that great but it basically works. i am using a basic 8 ohm resistance. It may need some filtering and amplifying.

Thanks ... once again for your useful suggestion. This forum is great and has always been a source of help.
