Thyristors have a negative temp co, not positive. first one to turn on will take most of the current.

Are you saying that parallel SCRs will tend to engage in current-hogging? I thought the usual characteristics of a forward-biased junction would tend to make them share equitably.

In an inductive coilgun application the current builds up relatively slowly. So all we have to do is ensure all the SCRs are turned on before the maximum current peak, right?

I for one would like to get to the bottom of the scr paralleling benefits. Most of the larger multi-kilojoule guns seem to use parallel scr's, mine included. Yet in many posts folks often say that one scr will carry the bulk or all the current. I'd like to see some current pulse measurements from paralleled scrs, at least in a higher powered app. I'd do it except I dont have a scope capable of that or access to one any more. And I am reluctant to possibly sacrifice my big brick scrs by disconnecting all the parallel ones. I guess even if only one was doing all the work, running multiple in parallel would insure the quickest one is doing the work resulting perhaps in a small gain in efficiency.
