So, I have made much progress now, but am facing a slight problem prior to running the capacitors in parallel: I have a bunch of capacitors whose voltage/capacitance are not marked, and I can't figure out how to measure them with a multimeter... They do seem to follow a pattern, they have two lines, the first line being a digit followed by a second digit in parenthesis, the second line being a digit followed by a letter (x,k,c,n,j,b). Two more follow the same first line, but with two letters on the second line (NP and ND), One has 3 digits (570), and one has the odd marking T0404 on the first line, PET on the second. Could someone assist me in determining the meanings of these markings, or refer me somewhere which could show me how to measure the voltage rating of these?

are they from flash cameras? There is no way to mesure the voltage and capacitance unless you have a capacitance meter (expensive). If its a camera, and you still have the board from them, mesure the output of that and use that as your voltage rating (+50v could work too) Guess the capacitance by the size compared to others. The stripe indicates cathode.

If you have just a multimeter you can use a resistor of known resistance and calculate the capacitance pretty closely using the RC formula.

My multimeter has a setting to measure capacitance, but I seem to not understand how it works... Should I use it when the capacitor is fully charged? Seems like a recipe for disaster.

no, make sure the capacitor is discharged, then just hook up the leads to it.

Ah, that's what I've been doing, getting readings in the millionth of a nanoFarad, though. Perhaps I have been destroying capacitors? Or just slightly less then stellar leads?
EDIT: Also, is this a good Bill of Materials for the Boost Converter?
