The aforementioned have contributed financially to the continuing triumph of 4hv.org. They are deserving of my most heartfelt thanks.
hello all. I've been expirementing/attempting to make a 2 stroke engine from a weed whacker run on compressed air. the carberatour input will be sealed off and air will be injected at the top of the engine(where the spark plug normally is). currently i can get the engine to go a full revolution by using a blow gun hooked up to my air compressor, but my timing isn't nearly good enough for continued rotation. I need help designing a timing/valve system for letting air in. My first idea was to use feedback from the pre-existing magnets on the flywheel, and a microcontroller to run an electric solenoid valve. this way things would be completely tweakable. My second idea was a mechanical linkage between valve and engine shaft. Either way, i'm absolutely unsure what kind of valve to use. I'm shooting for a maximum rpm value of 3000 which means the valve will open 50 times a second. I don't know much about valves, but this seems like it might be pretty hard to do. Could someone suggest a valve? maximum pressure will be 100psi.
some mod edit: oversized :( pictures of the engine :
The engine stripped of everything not needed (carb, gas tank, pullstarter).

Some sort of spool/rotary valve that goes on the crankshaft that way you can adjust the timing by moving the valve body, or if you have any 4 stroke engine heads around, hack the valve train from that into what you need.

I made an air compressor cylinder(and piston... and crankshaft.. and head) run backwards, using compressed air to turn it by turning the little one way ball valve into something like: I cut a little slot in the side of the cylinder for exhaust with a dremel and cutoff disk and i made the valve by drilling halfway thru the piston and placed and glued a nail in the hole so that is would open the ball valve everytime it hit top dead center or w/e you wanna call it(the peak of the stroke). If you can machine stuff, just make a ball valve on the spark plug hole thing and just use the existing exhaust port as the new one.
