Datasheet here Could someone please tell me how to set it up (component values) to simply control a microwave oven fan from 0% to 100%? I tried the basic "light dimmer" circuit but it works very bad for inductive loads. Thanks

Hi all, I have experimented with this chip but just can't get it to work right. I have tried both the "soft start" and "load current sensing" circuits (how do I calculate the value of the sensing resistor?) and modifications as described here but nothing helps to get it running smoothly.

Most microwave oven fans I've seen have a 'shaded pole' motor, someone on here might knowbetter, but I dont know that youcan vary the speed of those motors easily.

To calculate the sensing resistor value I think you need to know the maximum current required by the fan.
Example: If the fan draws 1 amp (pp) max, then the resistor would be a minimum (I think) of .25 ohm. Increasing the sense resistance should (I think) slow the fan down.

I think I found a way to control the fan motor using the basic "dimmer" circuit with slight modifications. The regulation is smooth in the whole regulation range (from nearly 0% to nearly 100%) and there is just very minimal, if any, dc component. Maybe it also depends on the triac used but I don't know.
Edit: Don't build this circuit, it seems to be unreliable, worked once but I wasn't able to replicate the performance with slightly different components...
Another edit: Might be because all of my diacs seem busted... Anyway try the circuit at your own risk
