Better get thicker aluminum plate! That would be fun to see it launch.
The coil was made through some expert metallurgy. Believe it or not, Tod put together several copper bars with the right amount of heat treating and braising and everything else to make it tight and flat. His hobby in his spare time is recreating authentic period swords.
The switch might be called a mechanical v-switch. That is, it's a cleverly designed copper switch. Basically they fire a copper wedge into a 9-degree vee shape copper contactor. I'll post pictures as soon as I can. The idea is that a shallow vee shape like this will stick in place through its own friction, and it has little or no bounce.
G-force was measured with two opto detectors a few millimeters out from the coil. It didn't work as well as hoped, since the plate seemed to lift off unevenly.

Pure awesomeness....I like the idea of using an induction launcher to propel another object without sending the aluminum disc up. Previously, I was attaching the discs to my "rocket's" base and sending both up.
