I just got a new transformer(actually it is quite old) from an old tv set. The set had 2 speakers, an old style flyback, but it uses solid state circuitry. It looks just like what i would expect a vacuum tube television to look like. The transformer is on a piece of metal that was bolted to the side of the set. These are the numbers that are on it.
U99PP180 (i think)
E I A 549-7921
300351-4

It also has the companies logo(i suppose that is what it is) which is a backwards capital R and a U.

It has 9 wires coming from the bottom through a hole in the metal it is bolted to and one is white, one is yellow, one is yellow with red stripes on it, one is black, one orange, two are either green or blue(i cannot tell), on is red, one is red with black stripes on it.

Can anyone tell me which wire are what and the outputs?

There was a color code convention to wire on transformers. It was used by some of the more established transformer companies like Triad. The striped wires are your primary choices: the solid colors are the secondary choices. There is an exception which is a lone solid black. In the "striped wire" convention, a red-black (striped wire) is often the highest level of voltage and should not be used with a solid black as the only two leads for your primary.
If it maintains the conventional transformer wire scheme, the black should be used with another (3rd) wire in your primary choices. This color-code can be found in old electrician's books from the 50 & 60's.

CLEAN the wires. If it does conform to the coding; you'll need to see them well. If you search I KNOW you can find the transformer wire code. but I have searched quite a long time to learn how to I.D. transformers in terms of construction and values and it's NOT easy.

This is what I have basically (from an old electrician's manual) Triad Dist. Div. (it's still in business!) 305 N. Briant St Huntingto, Indiana
Black/red-black (together on one AC line) & Black/yellow (strip) Input primary Highest - secondary highest is green solid red solid
Black/red-black (together on one AC line) & black/green strip Input 2nd primary Secondary Green Blue
Black/red-black (together on one AC line) & black white strip Input 3rd primary Secondary Yellow / Red and Blue/Red are the lowest voltage pairs

Today for NEC compliance you'd ground from the mains with the green main going to the frame but I would need to look that up....

Note this code was only standard in the USA, it was never used in other parts of the world. However, maybe your TV came from America.

If so, they also had the cute EIA code system. You mentioned your transformer was stamped EIA 549-whatever. 549 apparently means it was made by Midwest Coil & Transformer.

So now you know it's American. maybe this will help.
