quick capacitor question

I need to buy power factor correction capacitors for a mot bank before i fire it up and i was wondering what is better, motor start caps or motor run caps?

You want motor RUN caps, never use start capacitors for extended amounts of time. They really are only intended to start the motor, and then be switched out of circuit after maybe a second or so. If left in circuit with voltage applied to them, they do fail.
Motor run caps are almost always in a pressed steel can type enclosure. Motor start caps are often black plastic cylinders.
