need help on this 555 circuit please

I have been trying to build this circuit for the last months 2 no avail. It makes 2 leds blink that you mount in glasses for hypnotism or study the effects on animals or plants with pulsed light. I am breadboarding this circuit. This is also my first 555 timer circuit. This circuit has minimum parts so I feel really dumb. The 555 timer is wired as an astable multivibrator. All I can get the circuit to do is both lights come on but they don't blink. thanks everyone.

Connect the diodes like this:


The NE555 has enough current to supply the diodes. I think your problem is that the 555 has too high voltage drop so it cannot turn off the transistors completely.

If you have the high current version of the 555 ("NE555"), then this can drive the LEDs directly. you can get rid of the transistors.

Is C2 and D1 really needed for this circuit? I've built 555 circuits and didn't use them and they worked fine.

Check that the value of C1 is indeed 1uF. If you've put a smaller capacitor in here the LEDs could flash much faster than you can see, giving the impression that they are both constantly on. Also check polarity if it is an electrolytic cap.

Dr. Kilovolt, 1 resistor is enough since only 1 led at a time will be on.
Yeh, i think that will work since always 1 led will be bridged out.
