Believe it or no. Just yesterday i got exactly such NOS old variac. The thing is so small like palm of my hand. When i seen it i thought its some over sized pot :)
Mine is rated for 220 V, 1 A. I sanded it, cleaned and painted it black with compressor. If your is 110 V then probably not rated more than 2 A
Only difference is that mine has a vertical wheel as slider on coil.
