Well I've never really much gotten into the true HV stuff past what I get out of my flyback, so I thought this would be a nice introduction to me. I have a few questions though. Well a lot of questions, not much looking to waste too much money or kill myself in the process. My plan is to run my MOT at high frequency to run a 5 stage CW (about 20kv output?) then I will use this to charge a Marx generator with as many stages as I see feasible.
1) can you use a CW to charge the capacitors in a Marx generator?
2) any good references for making a simple high frequency generator?
3) will a flyback transformer work?
4) do i need capacitors rated for the full output of the CW for all the stages. Also for this relatively low voltage what would be a decent frequency and a decent capacitance?
Sorry for so many questions, but this is a new area for me.

I built an 18 stage CW with 400V 22 nF caps and 400V diodes, powered by an unrectified photoflash board. It worked just fine for charging a 22nF PET rolled cap, and a 4 stage Marx built from these caps.

I stumbled across this on ebay it appears to be a several stage marx generator, but how on earth is it so small? I'm considering purchasing one to charge caps ina second larger marx generator think it would work?

I am not sure but I believe they are hand wound coil and step-up , potted units made in Asia for the "stun-gun" market. Note the "6vdc to 100k" remark? I couldn't get a side view but I think I recognize this little item. They do put out a nice spark. But I'm skeptical about their longevity. They have a ferrite rod coil (that's the tough part to design & build) and a 4 stage crowded into a PVC potted with epoxy. I could be wrong; but it looks familiar.
