Hi all, I have the opportunity to pick up a fluoroscope made in the early 20th century. Teens or early twenties. I think PCB's came into use in the '30's, so the oil in this transformer should be ok. Anyone know for sure?

Hi Bob: My understanding of the timing is the same as yours, but I don't know of any exact dates. A lot of people apply a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy to PCBs these days, but I'm with you; I'd prefer not to have 'em!
Have you got access to the fluoroscope in advance of buying it? If so, perhaps the present owner wouldn't mind letting you test the oil. He/she may even be interested in knowing the result, even if you didn't buy the unit. PCB test kits are ~$10-$15. They're a little tedious to use, but not that bad. I've used the Dexsil Clor-n-Oil(tm) ones before.

When did PCB oil come into use?
