Here it is again, my flyback running on a halfbridge with 300V on it. Listening to people with more common sense I went up to 50 primary turns and switched from IGBTs to FETs, which worked, but not very well. So I went down to 25 primary turns and got this:
1142624666 75 FT0 Dscn4089

Which ignites at one inch and looks reasonably powerful.
The power input is limited to 100W or so with a small isolation transformer, so I guess performace is not to bad now.

I have such hot arc started at 4,5cm with single transistor and 28V supply.
SO I thing that IGBTs should pwn, bad I dont have any...

Try increasing max input current, wath for input voltage (in operation) it probably drops a lot under load.

cheers...

I removed the current limiting, blew for FETs, played around with the turns a bit more and now I get this:
1142628512 75 FT4616 Dscn4090

The arc is quite hot, but still does not jump more than 2cm. This is funny as the supply voltage is at the full 300V before the arc strikes, no idea what is going wrong...

Oh, I did not remove the current limiting entirely, but replaced it by
1142628598 75 FT4616 Dscn4091

500W halogen bulb, which just glows very dimly, so I suppose I could also take it out entirely.

Maybe you could use flyback's integrated primary as I did, very risky but for me it doubled the spark length.
You must find highest resistance winding and use it, some windings are too small and they will pulverize your bridge.

good work for now, yust be careful not to blow everything apart at once... dead
