I've designed my 3kVA RSGTC for long time, and something advancement can be noticed. All started from old washing machine's motor. I asked Kizmo to cut two flats into armature for salient pole-operation.
Taken some wood and setted motor things on it:
Tested synchronous salient pole-operation with fluorescent tube. Two "swords" from motor axis can be found:
After lots of work and weeks I was able to power things up:
This was done by 8/50 NST. There was insufficient insulation between copper and motor core on RSG disk. There probably occured sparking along PE-wire to NST, and after a while NST gave smoke out.
Yesterday I decided to finish my work off. I put some epoxy to motor's legs -> it doesn't move while starts. Today I built also dual MOT pack and tested RSG with them:

What was that I said before about not testing RSG's directly across transformers!?!?
The back EMF caused by the forced breaking of the arc causes huge voltages to be developed across the transformer if no load is present.
Testing the RSG without the rest of the TC connected is guaranteed to kill the transformer. It also tells you nothing about the voltage hold-off capability of the RSG or any guides to correct phasing, because it all changes with the tank cap connected.

Clearly I should read more manual. Thank you for this information. Now my MOTs are healthy - they could be not so OK after next minutes. I have a safety gap in the system, and it fired even set to about 15kV (8kV NST input). Why was I so st upid... Broken NST doesn't matter me. It was small and dirty from junkyard, and I got it for free.

You're not the first person to do this. I did it myself years ago without thinking and got the same "ring of fire" in the RSG and a dead NST for my trouble. That's why I posted again to remind others.
