Bridge rectifier for 100kV

I got a stack of these Semtech diodes a long time ago. They are screw in so it is easy to form long chains or them. I made this arrangement as being more flexible than a square or closely stacked arrangement.

Each individual unit is rated at 2.5kV working and I have tested them to avalanche at 5kV. Current is only rated 2.5A which seems strange for diodes meant to run under oil that look like they should handle 25A even though there is a few volts drop across then with forward current.

Nevertheless with 25 on each leg of a bridge rectifier, theoretically the bridge should handle 125kV DC working and 250kV DC peak or around 90kVAC RMS working.

I don't seriously plan to run 90KVAC on it but planned to build a rectifier for my 16kV dual potential transformer supply for an SISG setup. The nice thing about this bridge rectifier is that I can make it bigger or smaller just by screwing a few more on.

And if you are thinking that it is too close in the center for 100kV, you are right, but it is an open space and easy to bolt an acrylic sheet there.

In the final (smaller) unit of 10 diodes per leg of about 35kVAC rating, I'll throw in some MOV's as well which should make it fairly bullet proof if I avoid direct strikes.

I don't have the proper gear to manage acrylic well but it is a must sometimes. HV requires that you usually can't use wood and that you need to see what is going on, like sparks and corona where they shouldn't be.

The whole string of diodes would avalanche at over 500kV but if you supply AC and it runs into a capacitor then it will only take 1/3 of this (166kV) as peak to peak AC voltage is 2* RMS * SqtRt 2 .
Safe working would be half that ie 80kV.
