I have been building small coilguns for some time, ranging from 5 joules to 120 joules but now i want to make a bigger one. I have used the flyback to charge them for some time but now i am in need of a much beefier charger.
I plan on building a buck boost converter with a large inductor, i will have a mosfet or transistor controlled by a 555 timer for power switching. On anothercoilgunsite the guy said that he built one of these and it was able to charge a 100 joule capacitor bank in 1 second with 32v input.
This is what i am trying to replicate.
I drew up a quick diagram of my proposed design and its bound to have errors so please correct me if i am wrong.
ALSO!!!!!!!!!!!!
I found a great website called micrometals.com, i just got free samples of 2in long 1in diameter ferrite cores!!!!!!!!!!! This is the part that i was missing in the past.
