Digging in my university dumplace i salvaged some parts, like a microcontroller-termocouple feedback hot plate stiller (fully functional changing the fuse), worth about 500 euro and a huge power transformer, as long as some other parts.
it has a core cross section of about 22cm^2 , from which i estimated a power of 300Watts (by comparison with a commercial 200W unit with 66% the cross section of the above). It has 4 secondary windings , one fat, one a bit smaller, two paired , probably for bipolar operation (eg -12,+12V), and two primary windings with the same inductance and ressistance. What is the purpose of those windings? These are needed for 120V and 220V operations? (maybe series give 220, parallel 120). Probably the best choice will be the try the transformer in series with a 100W lightbulb (in case i connect the two windings in opposition, cancelling inductances). Anyone worked in past with a similar transformer?

The standard procedure would be to ramp up the voltage with a variac, while monitoring the current.
