A Marx needs DC. So the newer flybacks work.

You need AC for a CW multiplier.

A small and simple 555 driver is all that is needed to drive the flyback, since a Marx generator doesn't pull much power. Link2

i think if you use a zvs it will charge faster than with a regular 555 driver and if you use -volts to charge it it will charge even faster.

...and with the charging resistors the extra current the Mazzilli driver can source will be put to no use anyway.
