I saw a video on youtube using this driver, and would like to give it a try myself. The problem is with finding the IC. Theres only a few sites that have them. Is there a substitue that will work also? It would be good to get one locally, but that doesnt seem to be the case. Id there a circui tht works just as well, not as complicated and uses readily avaliable parts? Thanks

Hi, if you don't need hi-fi sound then you can use a 555 +MOSFET driver, and you input your audio to pin 5 of the 555 via a 0.1uF cap.
As to the IC, KA3525 is the same as SG3525. The singing arc would work also with TL494 but it's not pin-compatible with SG3525 and it would need a bit different circuit.

Yes, but there is more to that circuit, there are 2 IC's in that one. Thanks for the help. Do you have a circuit for the 555 timer one? i have searched google and found a few, i want to be sure that i make the right one.
The SG3525 can be made to work with minimal components too but I've added decoupling caps everywhere as it decreases the picked-up mains hum that may occur or interference from HV output.
"Do you have a circuit for the 555 timer one?" Just use the classic schematic with 2 resistors and one cap, and connect your audio to pin 5 through a 100n cap. The output of the 555 goes to the gate of a power MOSFET which drives your HV transformer.
