I was playing with a disposable camera today and noticed a small copper wire next to the flash tube that was critical to it flashing. Could anyone tell me what that wire is?

The trigger is connected to the trigger transformer. They way that works is a cap is discharged into the primary windings which induces a high voltage pule on the output. I think it's around 4KV.

Myke's explanation is correct as for teh voltage its anywhere between 3K-12K I have 2 10K flash coils that I have yet to use on any project lol had them for years.

Yeah, they're scary too. My brother decided to jump it to a ground across a rocket motor igniter. It was like a mini Jacob's ladder until the spark hit the pyrogen. He says he's found his new drag race igniter.
