i built a 500j capacitor bank that i want to use for exploding wire and minor can crushing but i dont want to spend money on a hokey puck scr's so i need to make some kind of compact mechanical switch and i was wondering if anybody has made something like this or can give me suggestions on how to make one.

I used some thin plexyglas that was bendable some wood and a rail of aluminum and a big bolt as electrodes.
Farly simple and efficient. I would recommend to go to Tesladownunders page and look at the switch he uses on one of the capacitor banks he got.

Check out this topic.
My current switch is the 7th or 8th post down. It works really well, and I don't think it bounces at all. I don't have an oscilloscope to be sure though.
