I had to build a HV source for a friend this days, so I used the simpliest way to get a reliable one with just a 240 watts electronic transformer and 2 identical non-rectifyed flybacks (to increase the output). The idea is old, but I am thinking that is the easy way to get some HV high frequency generator, even for the newbies without much EE knowledge. The output can be varied with a variac. With a twinflyback you get enough inductance to use only 5 primary turns and some long output arcs or nice plasma display in light bulbs.
Easy......but maibe not very cheap... :) Anyway I didn't resist to make some pics and movies, not much projects posted in the last 2 years...

Nice job, Vasil. Can I ask you about the "electronic transformer"? With 240 VAC input, what do you get out, a 12 VAC squarewave? Also, what's the output frequency and does it vary with input voltage, or is it fixed?
I know that the frequency is fixed at 220 Vac input. I can not check the output (no scope), dont know if the freq vary with variable voltage input.
-----------] I think I can verify that using a simple speaker connected to the output and cranking up the input voltage (no need for a scope)....the sound frequency would be a good indicator.I dont think that it will go upper than 20 kHz maibe. But I have none around.
