Depends on the inductance and resistance of the load and that caps and the wires and everything else. There is this RCL calculator that you can use to find the peak current in your setup but I don't have a link.

I will be testing the flash lamp idea tomorrow with my 1000 uf 400 volt bank. I got a 300 A peak SCR from Frys and made the working coil gun with ok results using 3 flash caps.

That's 80J if I did the math right. I would suggest a blast shield to protect yourself from the tube if it decides it can't handle that much energy. Just to be safe.

where: C= Capacitance in farads V= volts E= energy in joules.
and i agree completely with Myke about the blast shield. especially considering that you are running it at ~8x rated energy.
i ran a nice one without problems at 4x rated, but that doesn't say much, given that you flash tube is probably a lot younger, and thus less well made, than mine
additionally, SCRs can usually be overdriven a bit (what can't, keeping really tight tolerances is more costly than overshooting the ratings)
