Hi Okay, ive been puzzling with the idea of building my own RC model plane for some time and i have begun the construction, or rather the theory of construction, but:
its electrical controlled, and the fins and flaps are mechanical, i dont know how they normally construct this, ive never looked inside a working RC airplane. but it would have to be a small and light solution right?, and im thinking step-motor but thats still too big right? what kind of mechanism could be used here?

i was thinking along the line of 60-80cm in length and wings to match that, but it depends on what kind of engines i can get, and such, and what i can afford to buy materials for. It wont nessecary have to be big, but still big enough so i can work with it and still have the desired functions onboard.

a servo is what is normally used, you can get them in all sises (from ones weighing grams to ones weighing several ounces).
They work by having a small motor (cheap ones use a brushed motor, expensive use brushless) that is geared down to give more torq. But the key part is on the output shaft there is a variable resistor that gives a voltage proportional to the location of the shaft. This goes to a comparator, so that the servo is always where you tell it to go.
