in old monitors / tv's the curcuits that the flybacks use stock make prety good arcs.
i was thinking that you whould pop the monitor/tv open carefully remove the screen
and put the cucuit board in an enclosure and your done i'll try this soon and post the results

Make sure you remove the deflection coils and such as well, or it may act in an unexpected way.

btw, just out of interest, why would one want a HV supply on such a massive PCB when you could make a simple ZVS with 10 components to produce many times the power>

If you take some time to reverse engineer the board, you can cut out just the high voltage section. I've done it in the past to create some make-shift supplys, runs the massive hene's pretty well.

Remember, the curcuit is designed to output continuous voltage that doesn't drop much under normal use, so if you use it for drawing arcs, it won't live too long. The transistor will probably pop in first few minutes of arc drawing fun dead
