Well, this is actually a project i started two years ago, but now have some time to begin completing it.
Always intrigued by the 1950/1960's sci-fi UFO movies and there cool UFO sound effects created by the theremin, i decided to build my own theremin interface for use with a DRSSTC system. We've seen keyboards, CD playesr, and MIDI interfaces hooked up to musically control a DRSSTC, but this will definitely provide a very unique interface with a DRSSTC system and probably be able to create some very unusual sound effects, much like the original Theremin.
Instead of using tuned circuits to control amplitude and pitch (for obvious reasons), this system uses optical interfaces - one for each hand which conists of a IR photo diode and receiver. One hand controls amplitude (pulse width for the interrupter) while the second hand controls pitch.
I'll be posting pics later today hopefully.
In the tone of the UFO theme and the history of the Theremin, my interface uses an "alien" language font. If you can guess the font i used, you get a cookie!
