I'll prefix this by saying that this project is 99% based on Terry's original SISG design and also follows in the footsteps of Finn Hammer's "BRISG" (from whence it gets its name), however I did not go so far as to implement the "triggered" element of Finn's design. Rather I decided to keep my first crack at this fairly simple.

So here it is:

The board is designed to fit directly across the power terminals of a Powerex CM600HA-24H IGBT module. The basic circuit departs little from Terry's original, with one seeming (but not actual) exception: The main TVS is the only thing referenced to the emitter terminal on the IGBT, whereas everything else is referenced to Kelvin (the auxiliary emitter on IGBT bricks). The idea here is to try and minimize the effects of emitter inductance on drive voltage while simultaneously providing for better protection of the gate by a lower-voltage TVS (since it no longer needs to accomodate spurious overvoltage due to emitter inductance). We'll see whether that means anything in practice! wink So the two screw terminals on the board are for Kelvin and the IGBT gate. To understand the origin of this idea, which was not wholly my own, read the following thread, which also has a cheesy hand-drawn schematic showing what I ended up doing:
